Dr. Ted Ruel is a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases who serves as chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Global Health at UCSF School of Medicine. In addition, he serves as a pediatric hospitalist – a specialist in the care of hospitalized children – at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. In his research, Ruel studies HIV in African children, focusing on factors that affect disease progression and response to antiretroviral therapy. In 2002, Ruel co-founded the nonprofit International Pediatric Outreach Project, which supports pediatric education and care in Africa and India.
